When Norma first came to our Marietta dental office, she was dealing with advanced gum disease, an uncomfortable bite, and a smile she no longer felt good about. She was also terrified of going to the dentist. Just as important, she knew she did not want to spend her healing period without teeth or rely on removable dentures.
Dr. Sanjay Patel, DMD, developed a full-mouth reconstruction plan that addressed both Norma’s oral health and her goals for function and appearance. Because her remaining teeth were severely affected by gum disease, the treatment plan included removing those teeth and rebuilding her smile with an All-on-X approach.
Rebuilding Norma’s Smile in One Day
Norma completed treatment under oral sedation to help make the experience more comfortable and manageable. After her remaining teeth were removed, Dr. Patel placed six implants in the upper arch and six in the lower arch. Fixed teeth were then attached to the implants that same day.
This meant Norma did not have to leave the office without teeth or wear removable dentures during the initial healing phase. The next day, she reported minimal discomfort and said she had no memory of the surgery.
“I had my treatment done with no pain, no memory of my surgery, and I look much younger,” Norma said.
Designing the Definitive Smile and Bite
About four months after surgery, the team took impressions for Norma’s definitive prosthesis and designed her final smile. Dr. Patel used CT imaging for treatment planning and incorporated K-7 and TENS technology to evaluate and refine her bite.
Norma began treatment with a Class III bite, meaning her lower teeth sat farther forward than the upper teeth. Her final restoration created a Class I bite relationship, improving how her upper and lower teeth came together and enhancing the shape and appearance of her smile.
The changes also gave Norma’s lower face a more supported, youthful appearance without Botox, fillers, or facial plastic surgery. This reflects the practice’s non-surgical facelift approach, which uses dental reconstruction and bite correction to support facial proportions as part of the overall smile design.
Moving Forward With Confidence
For Norma, treatment was about much more than replacing teeth. She was able to address diseased teeth, regain stable dental function, move through treatment despite significant dental fear, and feel comfortable smiling again.
